Make Your Own Kitchen Conversions Sign for Your Cabinet

I love to cook and bake, which is good because we have many mouths to feed! I’m always changing up recipes, and this handy little chart is just so convenient to have on the inside of my spice cabinet door.

I have wanted to do this for a long time. I have had pages cut out of magazines, handwritten notes, or pictures taped to the inside of my spice cabinet for years.

This looks way better than any of those. It’s such a nice visual!

HOW TO

Step 1

First, I designed this graphic in Cricut Design Space.

Step 2

Next, I designed this cute little image in Design Space.

Step 3

I placed a piece of vinyl on my strong grip mat.

Step 4

Next, I cut out the first design on my Cricut.

I also cut the second design out but decided that the letters were so tiny, and there were so many of them.

I didn’t bother weeding them. Instead, I printed it out the dry measurements on card stock.

Step 5

I used a large piece of transfer tape. My transfer tape is very strong, so I use a blanket and rub the transfer tape on it a few time to make it a little less tacky.

Step 6

I used rubbing alcohol to clean the inside of the cabinet door.

This removes any dirt and grease.

Step 7

The first thing I did was apply the card stock measurements. This way, I know where to place the vinyl.

Step 8

Here is the vinyl on the cabinet door with the transfer tape still on.

I used my Cricut tools to make sure the vinyl was on the door very well and then peeled off the transfer tape.

When I was done, I wasn’t happy with the card stock on the bottom.

So, I printed it out again and put a frame around it.

Step 9

This time I used my corner punch to round out the corners.

BLOOPERS

I would have rather had the measurements that I printed onto card stock cut out of vinyl instead. But those darn letters were so small! And there were so many!

But, the print out was an excellent alternative.

Skeleton Costume for Mommy-to-Be

Make Your Own Skeleton Costume for Mommy-to-Be

When my oldest daughter came to town the week before Halloween, I knew we had to make her a costume! I mean, look at how cute she is!!

So many costume ideas for pregnant bellies were thrown out there! But, when I showed her this adorable SVG cut file from Etsy, we knew it was the one!

The day before she was supposed to fly home, she ran and got some inexpensive sweats from Walmart. Even though she’s due in just a few weeks, she’s wearing little boy-sized sweat bottoms! :-O

Check out Jennifer’s designs on Etsy! This SVG file was only $2.39. I love to support my fellow designers. And, for that price, I could not pass it up!

I was able to upload it into Cricut Design Space easily. I removed the lower two bones because Lexi is so tiny. We wanted the feet to be at the tip of her belly. We wanted the feet to POP, so I added a solid white shadow. We also wanted the heart to stand out, so we sliced the rib cage around it.

She looks beautiful!

HOW TO

Step 1

The first thing I did was had Lexi put on the sweats to get an idea of how big I wanted the ribs to be.

I cut out the design using my Cricut. Then, Lexi put the sweats back on, and I taped the iron-on where I wanted it to be. She carefully took them back off, and I ironed it down.

Don’t forget to mirror your images!

Step 2

I made a shadow block of the feet to make the blue POP off the black background.

I made them out of regular white HTV since I will be stacking the little feet on top of them. (You can’t stack on top of glitter iron-on.)

Step 3

Oh, my goodness! Look at these cute little skeleton feet!

I ironed them on top of the white shadow.

I also added the blue heart to the rib cage at the point.

Step 4

I cut out the leg and arm bones and ironed them on.

I used a Teflon sheet when ironing everything on.

Step 4

Here is an unclose look at one of the bones.

Once you’re done ironing everything on, you’re finished!

BLOOPERS

This was so quick and easy! I was rushing when I ironed on the leg bones because Superman had just made a fire in our fire pit and I wanted to go out and enjoy it!

So, when Lexi put the sweats on the next day we noticed some of it was peeling. I gave it a good ironing and everything was good.

Farmhouse Stacked Books

Make Your Own Farmhouse Stacked Books

I jumped on the Farmhouse Stacked Books bandwagon! I just love how they look! We have a billion kids, and my soon-to-be grandson, Ryder, is due in a few weeks! I am so excited! So I had to add one for him, too!

They turned out adorable and are super easy to make!

The ones that I have seen online are usually all the same size. But, because I needed to stack seven of them, I thought I’d try doing them in sizes that range from big to small.

I had most of the books sitting on my bookshelves already. But, I did purchase the two smallest ones at the Dollar Tree for this project. One of them is actually a little journal. It was the size I was looking for, and it was going to be painted anyway.

SUPPLIES

Books
Waverly Chalk Paint (Wal-Mart)
Permanent Vinyl, Black
Jute or Twine

TOOLS

Paint Brushes
Sanding Block

Cricut (or you can scissors)

HOW TO

Step 1

Collect your books and clean them with a damp cloth.

Step 2

Lay your books out and paint with Chalk Paint.

After you’re done painting the book covers, you can shabby them up by sanding the edges a little.

Step 3

Measure the spines and cut out each name or word with your Cricut. You can also use a stamp or pre-cut letters.

Step 4

After cutting the names out with my Cricut, I weeded out the extra vinyl.

Step 5

I used a piece of transfer tape on each name and applied it to each book’s spine.

Step 6

I used my scraper tool and rubbed all of the letters onto the books.

Step 7

I felt like the letters were too glossy for the shabby books.

Step 8

So, I used a small makeup brush that I keep in my paint supplies and dabbed on a little of the chalk paint over the letters.

Step 9

Next, I took a dry paper towel and wiped some of the paint off. It worked like a charm!

Step 10

Let the paint dry. This chalk paint only needs a few minutes to dry.

Step 11

Wrap in jute. (Twine) Then, tie a bow on the top.

I put little knots at the ends of the string and then frayed them.

BLOOPERS

I thought it would be fun to use this old typewriter font on the books.

But, after I applied the names and stacked them all up, I didn’t like how it looked.

So, I had to use my weeding tool to take all the letters off and try again.

And…I painted them so quickly that I got paint all over the edges of the pages. I let it dry and used sandpaper to get it off. :/ Phew!

And, And… one of the books was red when I started and it took at least 5-6 coats to cover it because it kept bleeding. I think it still has a hint of pink. If you’re trying to figure out which one it is, it’s the one that says “robert”.

DIY iPad Stand

Make Your Own Monogrammed Ipad Stand

I started using a digital planner on my iPad and thought it would be nice to have an iPad stand. So, I took some things that I already had lying around and made one. It turned out so cute!!

I had purchased an iPhone stand from IKEA, but my phone didn’t fit with the case on. So, it just got tossed aside. I had some wooden plaques from the Dollar Tree in my stash and tried out a few until I found the perfect one.

I used a leftover piece of wood and nailed it to the front so that the iPad didn’t slip off.

I wanted it to match my craft studio, so I used some leftover latex paint that matches the walls.

To finish it off, I designed an adorable monogram in Cricut Design Space. I used glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl. I ironed it onto the painted wood.

Finally, I painted one coat of ModPodge to seal it and protect it.

SUPPLIES

HOW TO

Step 1

The first thing I did was cut this piece of leftover wood down to 3 inches for the front of the stand.

Step 2

Next, I cut off the bull-nose of the stand from Ikea. I needed a flat surface to nail the wood to.

Step 3

I used a little bit of wood glue and then nailed the small piece to the stand’s front. It was a perfect fit.

This gives it a little lip so that the iPad doesn’t slip off.

Step 4

Next, I used wood glue to glue the little plaque to the stand. I inserted it where the phone would usually go.

Step 5

After the glue dried, I painted the iPad Stand.

I wanted it to match my craft studio, so I painted it with the leftover sample of latex paint that I used on my walls.

Step 6

When the paint was dry, I added this monogram that I cut out of Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV).

I ironed it onto the wood. Then, I applied one coat of ModPodge to the front of it.

Step 7

Here it is holding my work iPad. It’s at the perfect angle, and it’s just what I needed! I love it!

BLOOPERS

After giving the whole thing a coat of paint, the little plaque started coming apart. I think it’s just a bunch of layers of thin wood stacked and glued together.

So, I added some wood glue and some clamps, and we were back in business.

Doormat How To

Hey There, Pumpkin!

Friends! This doormat was so easy!! Let me show you how to make your own!

You really only need two things. A coir doormat and Flex Seal. Have you heard of either of these? LOL, sure you have! A Coir doormat, also known as a Coco mat, is made for the outdoors. It’s made from coconut husk fibers. The Flex Seal is black rubbery glue. I didn’t realize what it was until the Little Hunter pointed it out.

Little Hunter: You’re using Flex Seal?!? Cool!
ME: How in the world do you know what Flex Seal is?
Little Hunter: Cuz, it’s that stuff that guy uses on the commercial to make the glass boat!
ME: Oh, yeah!

I found the coir doormat at Wal-Mart for $5.97. It has a couple of flaws. You can see them under the word “pumpkin.” But it was the last one on the shelf, so I bought it anyway. I purchased the Flex Seal at The Home Depot for $4.98.

They are so inexpensive and easy to make. I plan to make ones for every season!!

SUPPLIES

Coir (CoCo) Doormat
Flex Seal Aerosol (2 oz)
Freezer Paper
Duct Tape (2 inches)
Masking, Blue, or Duct Tape (1 inch)

HOW TO

Step 1

Start with a new Coir (Coco) Doormat.

Step 2

Outline the edge of a doormat with 2-inch Duct Tape.

NOTE: At first, I used this cheap stuff, but you’ll see later on that I switched it out for strong quality duct tape.

Step 3

Place 1-inch tape inside the border.

This is just a placement piece that will be removed after the next step.

Step 4

Add another inner-border of 1-inch tape.

Be careful not to overlap the other tape. Try and butt it up as close to the other ones as possible.

Step 5

Now remove that placement piece of tape. This is where it’s going to get painted.

Step 6

Cut your design out using Freezer Paper.

You can use a Cricut or Scissors.

I only had scraps of Freezer Paper in my stash, so I had to do it in several pieces.

Step 7

The Freezer paper curls after you remove it from the Cricut mat.

I used sewing pins to secure it to the mat temporarily.

Step 8

Iron the freezer paper to the mat. I used the “cotton” setting.

Using Duct Tape, secure any exposed area that you do not want to get paint on.

Step 9

Using Flex Seal, spray straight down so that you don’t get it under your stencil.

Make sure you do this outdoors.

Spray two coats.

Step 10

Pull up the stencil as soon as you’re done spraying it with Flex Seal.

Do not wait until it dries to pull it up.

Step 11

Let it dry for a couple of hours before moving it. Then, let it dry 24 hours to cure.

Take pictures of your accomplishment!!!

This mat was so simple and fast.

BLOOPERS

I don’t this really qaulifies as a blooper, but the mat had some imperfections in it when I purchased it. You can see it in the picture. There’s one spot under the “u” and one under the second “p”.

It was the last mat on the shelf, so I bought it anyway. Oh, well.

Foil Iron On T-shirt

FOIL IRON ON

I have been enjoying making pajamas. They are so easy and so comfy! And, the shorts only take a yard of fabric. I created the SVG cut file design in Inkscape because I wanted something to go with the pattern on the shorts. But, I didn’t want it to be too matchy matchy.

Every time that Bug wears these PJ’s, I can’t help but to read the shirt in my most valley girl accent. “k, byeee!” Oh how I miss the 80’s! Big hair, acid wash jeans, and not a care in the world.

HOW TO

Step 1

Lay your freezer paper on your mat, shiny side down.

I use this little roller to smooth out any bubbles. I was skeptical about buying it, but I use it often.

Make sure that you use a much larger piece of freezer paper than your actual design. You’ll be pulling the ink across the paper with the squeegee and you don’t want to get any on your t-shirt that isn’t part of the design.

Step 2

Use your Cricut to cut out the design. Use the Freezer Paper setting for the cut.

You could also use scissors to cut out a design that you draw onto the freezer paper. Just remember, shiny side down.

Step 3

You’ll need some transfer tape for this design. I purchased THIS transfer tape from Amazon. It says medium tack. It is very tacky, so I have to lay it on some fuzzy fabric a couple of times before putting it on something like freezer paper, or I’ll never be able to get it back off.

Before I bought this big roll, I was using the clear contact paper from the Dollar Tree. What kind of transfer tape do you use?

Step 4

Prepare your shirt by ironing down the middle and across where the armpits are. This crosshairs design gives you a guide for placing your design.

Step 5

Fold your design in half horizontally and vertically to give you the crosshairs to match up with creases you made on your shirt.

Cover with a Teflon sheet or piece of parchment paper or piece of fabric.

NOTE: I left the transfer tape on my design and ironed for a few seconds before peeling it off.

Peel off the transfer tape, place your Teflon sheet over the freezer paper, and iron.

The heat setting on your iron should be set to your fabric type. I had mine on the cotton setting.

Iron for about 10 seconds. Flip the whole thing over and iron the back of the shirt.

Step 6

Here is what it looks like when it’s ironed on.

Step 7

Notice how big of a piece of freezer paper I used. This way, I can dabble some screen print ink at the top and pull it across the design with my squeegee.

Step 8

The squeegee I used is wide enough to cover the entire image in one pass. That way, there won’t be any drag lines from the edge of the squeegee.

The hard part is waiting for it to dry. I just set it aside and started working on another project.

I let it dry for a few hours. Some suggest to let it dry overnight. But, I was careful and was able to peel the freezer paper off without getting ink anywhere.

I used my weeding tool to get the small pieces up.

Step 9

The squeegee I used is wide enough to cover the entire image in one pass. That way, there won’t be any drag lines from the edge of the squeegee.

The hard part is waiting for it to dry. I just set it aside and started working on another project.

I let it dry for a few hours. Some suggest to let it dry overnight. But, I was careful and was able to peel the freezer paper off without getting ink anywhere.

Step 10

Once it’s dry, you’ll have to go over it again with the iron to heat seal it. I use a Teflon sheet, but you could also use parchment paper. That’s it! Easy peasy!

I think it turned out cute and Bug loves it!

BLOOPERS

The design I chose had small jagged edges. It would probably cut vinyl a lot easier than it cuts freezer paper. I didn’t have my material settings on freezer paper at first (I had it on wax paper). So, it took a few tries to get it to cut right.

I also used my light-grip mat initially. I switched it up to my heavy-grip mat, and that worked a lot better.

RileyBug’s Ramen Bowl with Dishwasher Safe ModPodge

Dishwasher Safe Mod Podged Top Ramen Bowl

“Top Ramen Wednesday” has been a thing at our house for years. How does something like that even begin? Who even feeds their little kid Top Ramen? Well, Bug and Lexi are 11 years apart. That means when Bug was little, her sister was a teenager. And, teens LOVE Top Ramen. Bug wanted whatever Sissy had. She wanted it so often that I had to come up with a compromise. “You can have it on Wednesday if you don’t ask me for it again until then.”

And, so it began, Top Ramen Wednesdays. I guess I figured once-a-week was better than every day. Fast-forward nine years later, and this kid still looks forward to her Top Ramen. Chicken flavored, in case you were wondering. Of course, we purchase it in bulk, so we never run out.

So, for Bug’s birthday this year, I made her a Bowl…er..um…mug. Whatever. She loves it!

SUPPLIES

Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe (Gloss)
Mug or Bowl (I purchased mine from the 98 cent store for $1.48.)
Vinyl
Transfer Tape
Design

TOOLS

HOW TO

Step 1

Prepare your vinyl. I cut my design with my vinyl all on the same mat. I only used the transfer tape for the orange letters.

Step 2

Prepare the surface for your design. I marked off the top and bottom with painter’s tape. Then, I used a washable marker and a ruler to draw crosshairs for the center.

Step 3

Center your design onto your cup. The best way to do that if your cup or bowl is the same size as your design, is to cut slits around the vinyl so it can go around all those curves.

[I used a font that I thought looked like the font on the package.]

Step 4

Now that you have your design on the cup. Using a soft bristle brush, paint over the design with the Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge.

Step 5

You have to let it cure for 28 days before putting it in the dishwasher.

BLOOPERS

Bug has to wash her dishes and put them in the dishwasher when she’s finished with her meals.

I let her use her “bowl” after only a couple of days and planned to hand-wash it until it cured.

She put it in the dishwasher, and I totally missed it before running a load of dishes. This is what happens if you don’t wait the 28 days. 🙁

You might also notice that I peeled off the white chopsticks and replaced them with these tan colored ones. I also added noodles all over the cup.

I didn’t realize that I forgot to take pictures when I was all done with the final product.

Mornings Are Unbearable Foil Iron-On

I couldn’t wait to try this foil iron-on. The foil-iron is the purple-ish one. The teal is a glitter HTV. I thought they’d go well together and look cute with these pajama bottoms that I made for Miss P.

I wanted to make a cute pajama top, but I didn’t want it to be too matchy matchy.

I was inspired by a pajama top that I saw at our local tween girls shop.

The first thing I did was download a real photo of a panda bear and then create a design in Inkscape. It was a fun design to make, and I’ve added it to my FREE download section.

HOW TO

Step 1

You’re going to need to cut your glitter HTV and your foil iron-on at different times. Don’t place them on the mat together because you’ll need to cut them with varying pressures of the blade.
I was trying to use up scraps. So I cut a few strips and lined them up for my cut. This Glitter HTV always tends to roll, so I used a little painter’s tape to hold it down. (They sell painter’s tape at the Dollar Tree!)
After the Glitter HTV cut, I removed it from the mat and cut the foil. DON’T FORGET TO MIRROR YOUR IMAGE!

Step 2

Prepare your shirt by ironing down the middle and across where the armpits are. This crosshairs design gives you a guide for placing your design.

Step 3

I folded each of the pieces in half to give me a crease. I matched up all the creases and laid them on the t-shirt.
I didn’t use the horizontal crease on the shirt. Instead, I measured down about 2-2 1/2 inches from the collar to the top of the design.
Cover the design with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper.
Iron.

It turned out so adorable! I love the two different types of iron-on, and the two colors go together very well.

Miss P loves her new pajamas!

BLOOPERS

I weeded the design and placed it on the shirt. I kept looking at it thinking, “this doesn’t look right.” But, I couldn’t figure out why.

Then, I noticed the eyes. I realized that I had weeded out the wrong part and threw the scraps in the trash.

I dug through the trash until I found the tiny little pieces and changed them out for the parts that didn’t belong.
In my defense, it’s hard to see a cut design with that Glitter HTV.

That’s why sometimes I’ll use cornstarch on my fingertip and rub it over the design so the cuts will stand out.

I figured this design was big enough that I didn’t need to use cornstarch.

I was wrong. [insert eye roll]

Cat Shirt

I have still been sewing pajama shorts for the kids. I bought some material with simple little cat faces on them for Bug. I already had a t-shirt in my stash for her. I just needed to think of something to go on it.

I ended up just designing an SVG cut file that matched the design on the fabric. It was simple but cute.

She has been growing like a weed lately, and nothing seemed to fit her anymore. But, I think she has enough pajamas to last her awhile now.

The problem is that they’re so comfy that it’s all she wants to wear All. Day. Long. Tweenager.

HOW TO

Step 1

Place your HTV on the Cricut mat face down. I like to use blue tape to keep it down because it tends to roll.

If you haven’t already, go grab my FREE cat design and upload it into Design Space. No need to mirror the image.

Cut the design using the HTV setting on your Cricut.

Step 2

Remove the HTV from the mat. Weed the design.

I purchased THIS exact weeding set and I’m glad I did!

Step 3

Prepare your shirt by ironing it down the middle vertically and at the armpits horizontally. This gives it crosshairs to line up your image.

Step 4

Prepare your design by folding it in half horizontally and vertically.

Match the creases up to the creases on your shirt.

Step 5

Cover the design with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper.

Follow the recommended settings that came with your HTV. I set my iron to Cotton/Polyester.
Iron, following the recommended times that came with your HTV.

Step 6

HTV requires a cool, warm, or hot peel, depending on your brand. Mine recommended a warm peel. So, I peeled off the backing of the HTV when it was still warm.

Here is the shirt. So cute!!

BLOOPERS

I think the blooper is very obvious, lol. I cut the cat fabric out upside down. I wish I would have made the shorts first because I would have put the cat’s face on the shirt upside down.

Good thing these are pajamas! Haha And, good thing that Bug is a good sport. She’ll wear these PJ shorts anyway.

Baby Yoda Shirt

Make Your Own Baby Yoda Shirt Out of Freezer Paper

Whenever I am shopping, I’ll check the clearance section for some blank tees. This green shirt with glitter has been in my stash for a couple of months now, and I figured I better do something with it before it got too small for Bug.

I came across this super cute Baby Yoda SVG design on Etsy and couldn’t pass it up. It was only $1.99 for the file, and I love supporting my fellow designers.

I thought the design would look great on this green shirt. Especially since it had a sparkly background on the fabric.

Next, I needed to decide if I wanted to use white HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl) iron-on or if I wanted to use white screen printing ink. But, it so happened that my new Speedball Squeegee showed up in the mail today! Screen printing for the win!

This is the exact Squeegee that I purchased. It’s so much better than trying to use the Pampered Chef tool that I was trying to use, lol.

HOW TO

Step 1

Lay your freezer paper on your mat, shiny side down.

I use this little roller to smooth out any bubbles. I was skeptical about buying it, but I use it often.

Step 2

Use your Cricut to cut out the design. Use the Freezer Paper setting for the cut.

You could also use scissors to cut out a design that you draw onto the freezer paper. Just remember, shiny side down.

Step 3

Before I bought this big roll, I was using the clear contact paper from the Dollar Tree. What kind of transfer tape do you use?

Step 4

Prepare your shirt by ironing down the middle and across where the armpits are. This crosshairs design gives you a guide for placing your design.

Step 5

Fold your design in half horizontally and vertically to give you the crosshairs to match up with creases you made on your shirt.

Cover with a Teflon sheet or piece of parchment paper or piece of fabric.

NOTE: I left the transfer tape on my design and ironed for a few seconds before peeling it off.

Peel off the transfer tape, place your Teflon sheet over the freezer paper, and iron.

The heat setting on your iron should be set to your fabric type. I had mine on the cotton setting.

Iron for about 10 seconds. Flip the whole thing over and iron the back of the shirt.

Step 6

Here is what it looks like when it’s ironed on.

Step 7

Notice how big of a piece of freezer paper I used. This way, I can dabble some screen print ink at the top and pull it across the design with my squeegee.

Step 8

The squeegee I used is wide enough to cover the entire image in one pass. That way, there won’t be any drag lines from the edge of the squeegee.

The hard part is waiting for it to dry. I just set it aside and started working on another project.

I let it dry for a few hours. Some suggest to let it dry overnight. But, I was careful and was able to peel the freezer paper off without getting ink anywhere.

I used my weeding tool to get the small pieces up.

Step 9

The squeegee I used is wide enough to cover the entire image in one pass. That way, there won’t be any drag lines from the edge of the squeegee.

Step 10

Once it’s dry, you’ll have to go over it again with the iron to heat seal it. I use a Teflon sheet, but you could also use parchment paper. That’s it! Easy peasy!

I think it turned out cute and Bug loves it!

BLOOPERS

I also used my light-grip mat initially. I switched it up to my heavy-grip mat, and that worked a lot better.
